How the test works
Each example shows two cards with the same outline. Decide whether the right card is the left one simply turned (Same), or turned over to its mirror image and then turned (Different).
The shapes have 6 to 14 edges, either all at right angles or at irregular angles, and none of them is symmetric, so a mirrored card never matches by turning alone. Watch for one more kind of Different: a card that is only turned, but has one corner cut off, so its outline has one side fewer.
The rule that tells them apart
Turning a card never changes the order of its features as you go round the outline. Flipping it over always reverses that order.
Pick the feature that stands out most, such as the longest arm or the deepest notch, and find it on both cards. Go clockwise round each outline from it. If the same feature comes next on both, the card was only turned: Same. If it now comes next going the other way, the card was flipped: Different.
